Cannabis Permitting – Time is Running Out!

The door is still ‘slightly’ open for those interested in permitting of ‘pre-existing’ cannabis operations (must have existed prior to 12/31/15). Humboldt County Planning Department will continue to accept applications until December 31, 2019. Applications that are submitted between now and the end of year may qualify for permitting at 50% of the documented cultivation area footprint.

After December 31, 2019, no new applications will be accepted under the ‘pre-existing’ allowance. If you are considering an application, please call Humboldt County Planning Department to schedule an appointment for an Administrative Assistance meeting. Make sure to indicate that the meeting is for for a pre-existing application under the 2.0 Ordinance.

Warning Letters

Last week approximately 470 warning letters were sent out to residents that were suspected of cultivation activity. The letters were in response to many complaints regarding the abatement process. The community at large, requested that a warning letter as a courtesy, to avoid exorbitant abatement costs.

These letters have created a bit of a panic within the cannabis community. The letters are a request for a response. If it isn’t marijuana cultivation, then provide appropriate documentation to Humboldt County Planning Department to rectify. Otherwise it is important to weigh your options and either abandon operations or consider permitting your pre-existing cultivation prior to December 31, 2019.
